Moko Choco was created in 2010 on a wave of enthusiasm and the mutual musical tastes of Aksi and Alexandre. They met at the University Paris 8, where they were both studying musicology. Paris 8 is famous for its mix of international students and cultures. When Aksinya came to Paris from Moscow, she knew that she wanted to study jazz there. Initial rehearsals and home recordings showed that Aksi’s lyrics and melodies sounded good and got an added charm with the addition of Alexandre’s harmonies. Completing the line up are two further musicians who bring their talent and experience to enhance the performance of Moko Choco. Nicolas on piano / clavier, and Denis on drums. The style of Moko Choco is rather eclectic and not easy to classify. It is an interweaving of pop and jazz, sometimes adding reggae and funk influences, and using the languages of Pushkin, Shakespeare, and Moliers . Lyrics are varied from humorous to lyrical and are based upon Aksinya’s real life experiences and dreams.
